Salman Rushdie

Salman Rushdie is the author of a vast body of work, including the novels Midnight's Children (which won the Booker Prize in 1981, the Bookers' Booker in 1993 and, in 2008, the Best of the Booker), Shame, The Satanic Verses, The Moor's Last Breath and Quichotte, all of them finalists for the Booker Prize.
He has been distinguished with numerous awards, including the Whitbread Prize for Best Novel, which he won twice; the James Tait Black Award; the Best Foreign Book Award published in France; the Aristeion Prize for Literature of the European Union; the Budapest Grand Prize for Literature; and the Grinzane Cavour Prize (Italy). In 2007, he was awarded the title of Knight for services rendered to literature. He was president of PEN America and is a member of the Royal Society of Literature and Commandeur de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. In 2012, Don Quixote published his autobiography, Joseph Anton – A Memory.
