Jacques Roubaud was born in 1932 in Caluire, Rhône region, France. A poet, novelist, playwright, essayist, and mathematician, he published his first book in 1944 and dozens of others since then. Jacques Roubaud's creative journey was marked by his brother's suicide in 1961 and, later, by the premature death of his wife, just three years after their marriage.
