ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Harold Bloom

Harold Bloom (New York City, July 11, 1930 – New Haven, October 14, 2019) was a professor and literary critic. He held the title of Sterling Professor of Humanities at Yale University. Since the publication of his first book in 1959, Bloom wrote over forty books, including twenty books of literary criticism, several books discussing religion, and a novel. He edited hundreds of anthologies on numerous literary and philosophical figures for Chelsea House publishing house.
The professor became known as a humanist because he always defended the Romantic poets of the 19th century, even at a time when their reputations were very low. He was also a very impartial critic of adventure books, and many believed that he lacked the mind to be a cultural literary critic, justifying it, rightly so, by saying that he had a "closed mind to more fanciful, fantastic and creative things".
Bloom was one of the great contemporary proponents of the concept of the Western Canon.
A Shakespearean, one of the great proponents of so-called "bardolatry," wrote Shakespeare - The Invention of the Human and Hamlet - Unlimited Poem, two great essays about the bard.
She taught humanities at Yale University and English at New York University. She passed away on October 14, 2019, at the age of 89.
