ABOUT THE AUTHOR

William H. McNeill

William H. McNeill (1917–2016) foi um dos historiadores americanos mais importantes. Exerceu como professor de História na Universidade de Chicago durante quarenta anos, até se reformar em 1987. Ao longo da carreira, publicou mais de vinte livros, incluindo The Rise of the West: A History of Human Community, que venceu o National Book Award, em 1964; Pursuit of Power: Technology, Armed Force and Society Since 1000 A.D. e Pestes e Povos. O Professor McNeill foi presidente da American Historical Association até 1985. Em 1996, tornou-se o primeiro não europeu a receber o Prémio Erasmus, um galardão anual concedido por contributos excecionais para a cultura, sociedade e ciências sociais europeias.
