ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Theodore Ayrault Dodge

Oficial norte-americano e historiador militar. Nasceu em Pittsfield, Massachusetts, tendo recebido educação militar em Berlim e estudado na Universidade de Londres e na Universidade de Heidelberg. Ingressou no Exército da União em 1861 como soldado raso e serviu nos Serviços de Voluntariado ao longo de toda a hierarquia do regimento. Foi ferido três vezes e perdeu a sua perna direita na Batalha de Gettysburg. Foi nomeado para o Exército Regular em 1866 e serviu no Departamento de Guerra, de 1864 até 1870, ano da sua reserva. Fez de Paris o seu lar, e aí faleceu em 1909. Considerado um dos melhores historiadores militares norte-americanos do séc. XIX, a sua obra mais importante, foi History of the Art of War: Alexander, Hannibal, Caesar, Gustavus Adolphus, Napoleon (12 volumes).
