ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Jim Davis

Jim Davis was born in July 1945 in Marion, Indiana, USA, and was raised within a typical American family on a ranch dedicated to raising Black Angus cattle, where there were 25 cats among the many farm animals.
Jim Davis studied Arts in Muncie, Indiana, and worked in the teaching field and later, in advertising agencies.
The resounding success achieved with his creation Garfield, earned him the prestigious Reuben Exciting Cartoonist of the Year Award in 1990, an award for best cartoon given by the National Cartoonists Society, and even the Best Humor Strip (1981 and 1985), as well as the coveted Elzie Segar Award (1990), and also four Emmy Awards for Outstanding Animated Program, and a prominent presence in the Licensing Hall of Fame (1998).
The author lives in Indiana, in the United States, where he dedicates himself to writing and drawing, and is also President of the company he founded to support Garfield and the empire built around him on a planetary scale as Garfield quickly became a star not only in the world of books, but also in a vast range of licensed products: cartoons, movies, games and DVDs, toys, clothes, decoration, fashion accessories, school supplies, etc.
Married and father of three, he says that to this day he has fun every day with Garfield, the cat that dictated his destiny. He actively participates in various humanitarian projects ranging from promoting literacy and developing reading habits in younger generations to animal rights advocacy.
