Flatland

Edwin A. Abbott (1838-1926) was born and lived in London, England. He devoted himself mainly to teaching, having been director of the prestigious City of London School, from 1865 (at the age of 26) to 1889. He was a Shakespearean scholar and an avid writer, having published more than 50 titles. Despite having lived in the Victorian period, highly conservative and sectarian, he believed in a more balanced society – very evident in the ironic universe he created in Flatland -, having defended education for all, regardless of the individual's gender or social stratum.
