ABOUT THE AUTHOR

David Shields

David Shields is the author of eight books, both fiction and nonfiction, including Black Planet: Facing the race during an NBA season, finalist of National Book Critics Circle Award; Remote, winner of PEN/Revson Prizeand Dead Language: A Novel, winner of the award PEN synchronization fiction.
Senior editor of the magazine Conjunctions, published essays and articles in dozens of newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times magazine, Harper Magazine, Yale Review, Village Voice, Salon, Slate, McSweeney's and The Creditor.
He lives with his wife and daughter in Seattle, where he is a professor in the English Department at the University of Washington.
