Claudio Magris, o celebrado autor de Danúbio, nasceu em Trieste, em abril de 1939. É romancista, ensaísta, germanista, e colabora regularmente com revistas e jornais europeus. Os seus livros contribuíram para o conhecimento literário da cultura europeia – foi o criador do conceito de Mitteleuropa. Magris é um dos candidatos favoritos ao Prémio Nobel da Literatura e um dos mais influentes intelectuais dos nossos tempos.
