ABOUT THE AUTHOR

James Allen

James Allen was born in England in 1864 into a working-class family. In 1879, his father emigrated alone to the United States, with the aim of creating better conditions for his own, but just two days after disembarking he was found dead. Thus, at the age of 15, James Allen found himself without a father and forced to leave his studies to help support the family. Despite the many hours of work, he always dedicated his free time to reading and educating himself. Among his readings and inspirations, the work of Shakespeare stood out, but Allen also focused on several other authors and thinkers.
In 1883 James Allen meets Lily, whom he marries. Lily was one of his main supporters and one of the people who most encouraged him, and it was thanks to his insistence that James would edit, in 1902, Tu és o que pensas, which became his most recognized work. After her husband's death in 1912, Lily Allen continued to publish her works.
James Allen is considered by many to be the "father of self-help", having inspired countless philosophers and thinkers.
