ABOUT THE AUTHOR

David Soares

David Soares is a writer, historian, holds a master's degree in Modern History, and is an integrated researcher at CHAM–Center for Humanities (NOVA FCSH). He is the author of the novels... The Gospel of the Hanged Man, which tells the story of the São Vicente de Fora panels; Triumphant Lisbon, a magical story about the Portuguese capital; and The Conspiracy of the Ancestors, about the encounter between the poet Fernando Pessoa and the English magician Aleister Crowley. He published four books of short stories, ten comic books, two books of essays, and two albums. spoken word.
As a comic book author, he has been awarded four trophies for Best National Screenwriter and a literary creation grant, awarded by the Portuguese Institute of Books and Libraries and the Ministry of Culture (2002). His comic book Applause for the Squirrel!, designed by Pedro Serpa (Kingpin Books, 2013), was published in Brazil by Mambembe Livros (2024).
His work The Fool and the Alchemist: Physical and Moral Deformity at the Court of King John III (Verbi Gratia, 2024), a study that intertwines areas of knowledge such as the history of the body, the history of madness, teratology, the history of heresies, the history of disability and the history of court jesters, was awarded the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation Prize — Modern and Contemporary History of Portugal, granted by the Portuguese Academy of History (2024).
