First published in 1903, this three-volume set deals with the history of Japan from its origins to the end of the Tokugawa Shogunate. The volumes look at: the origins of Japan to the arrival of the Portuguese in 1542; the century of foreign intercourse, 1542-1651; and the Tokugawa epoch, 1652-1868.
