ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Kenneth White

Kenneth White was born in Gorbals, Scotland, in 1936. He defines himself as a poet and thinker. He currently resides in Trébeurden, Brittany, where he has lived since the 1960s and is the author of numerous narratives including *Derives* (1978), *Les Cygnes Sauvages* (1983), *La Maison des Marées* (2005), several books of poetry, and among his essays, notable works include *La Figure du Dehors* (1982), *Une Apocalypse Tranquille* (1985), *Le Monde d’Antonin Artaud* (1989), and *Le Plateau de L’Albatros: une introduction à la Géopoetique* (1994), among others. He has given numerous published interviews, and his ideas and work are the subject of international studies.
A theorist of the geopoetic movement, imbued with a cosmic sense, he intertwines the poetry of the elements with a philosophy of wandering. Influenced by Thoreau, Walt Whitman, Nietzsche, Baudelaire, Rimbaud, Kerouac, and Eastern philosophers, he brings with him a body of work marked by a unique stance on literature and poetry. With his wife Marie-Claude White, he frequently travels the world, presenting and debating the theories of the Geopoetic Movement, particularly present in *The Nomadic Spirit*, which Deriva is now publishing.
