ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Manuel Graça Dias

Manuel Graça Dias was born in Lisbon in 1953.
Holding a degree in Architecture from ESBAL (1977), he was an assistant at the Faculty of Architecture of the Technical University of Lisbon and is currently a Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto and the Department of Architecture of the Autonomous University of Lisbon.
In 1990, he founded the Contemporânea studio with Egas José Vieira. He received the Valmôr Honorable Mention (1983) for a house he restored in 1979 in Graça, Lisbon, in association with António Marques Miguel; among several awards, he also won 1st place in the competition for the Portuguese Pavilion at Expo'92 in Seville, and in the competition for the construction of the new headquarters of the Portuguese Association of Architects / Banhos de S. Paulo, in Lisbon (1991), both in association with Egas José Vieira.
Since 1978, he has collaborated with architecture newspapers and magazines and has been invited to numerous conferences, both in Portugal and abroad. He was also the author of the television program "Ver Artes / Arquitetura" (1992/96).
In addition to Lisbon, he has built works in Porto, Chaves, Vila Real, Macau and Seville, which have been the subject of several exhibitions, both individual and collective, and have been featured in specialized magazines.
