Apesar de a sua história académica estar cheia de vicissitudes, incluindo a expulsão da escola no sexto ano e uma temporada como carteiro, Stephen Law fez uma licenciatura em filosofia de primeira qualidade na City University, em Londres. Continuou os estudos na Oxford University, onde foi investigador assistente durante três anos. Actualmente é leitor de Filosofia no Heythrop College, na University of London.
