Sakamoto 1996

A tribute to the acclaimed Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto, who passed away in March 2023, this performance is a video art concert featuring piano, violin, cello, and a strong multimedia component.
This musical trio is one of the few groups in the world to perform the work "1996" in concert, interpreted according to the original scores available in a rare, limited edition supervised by the composer himself, and with which Sakamoto has undertaken two world tours.
“The Last Emperor”, “Babel”, “Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence” or “Wuthering Heights” are some of the iconic soundtracks whose music (some of it) makes up the album “1996”, released in the same year. Sakamoto's work evokes an eclectic range of influences, from traditional Japanese music to the work of classical composers such as Bach, Debussy or Schumann.
The concert also includes works by the composer/arranger and mentor of the project, João Vasco, which are part of his album "2016" - created in homage to Sakamoto and presented on an international tour between 2019 and 2023, in countries on 4 continents.
