ABOUT THE EVENT
The album BACH The Quodlibet Quintet connects the timeless universe of Johann Sebastian Bach to the ever-evolving language of contemporary jazz. Conceived and composed by the Portuguese pianist Daniel Bernardes, it reinvents the legacy of the greatest figure in Baroque music through the use of polytemporality. phasing And musical collage — blending excerpts from this repertoire with modern improvisation and harmonic creativity. Beyond a traditional tribute, and even further from a simple jazz reinterpretation, these are true recompositions that renew Bach's musical material through techniques inspired by the visual arts. The album was commissioned by the Around Classic festival and features the newly formed Quodlibet Quintet, made up of five of the most prominent figures in Portuguese jazz: Daniel Bernardes (piano, composition), Ricardo Toscano (alto saxophone, clarinet), João Barradas (accordion), Demian Cabaud (double bass) and Joel Silva (drums). An innovative contribution from the Artway label to the ongoing dialogue between classical and jazz traditions — a territory in which Daniel Bernardes has consistently excelled throughout his career.
