ABOUT THE EVENT

Devotional poems revolving around the life and martyrdom of Christ.

"Resurrection only happens with the transformation of our lives, of the meaning of our wounds."
Tolentino de Mendonça

Easter is the central pillar of Christian theology and devotion. The culminating point of Christ's life and mission, it is where redemption and salvation find their most powerful expression, projecting the Resurrection as a symbol of transformation and hope, relevant to believers and non-believers alike. The idea of spiritual metamorphosis recurrently permeates the Gospel narratives, whether metaphorically—through parables—or more explicitly, in the example of Jesus' own actions and events. The poetic-musical treatment of this transformation/salvation binomial gave rise, in the Iberian Peninsula of the 16th and 17th centuries, to a repertoire of extraordinary richness and diversity, encompassing a wide variety of registers, from the elegance and solemnity of polyphonic works in Latin to the theatricality and rich imagery of compositions in the vernacular.
