ABOUT THE EVENT
The Pharmacy Museum offers an attractive and unusual journey through 5000 years of health history.
Its vast collection includes objects of rare artistic, anthropological, and scientific value, presenting a journey where each civilization is portrayed through a narrative of combating disease and seeking cures and pain relief, from the earliest traces of life on Earth to the present day, encompassing cultures and civilizations as distinct in time and space as Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, Rome, the Incas, the Aztecs, Islam, Africa, Tibet, China, Japan, and others.
From an Egyptian sarcophagus where hopes for eternal life were placed, to the plague doctor's outfit, as a symbol of the fight against one of the greatest pandemics in history, the objects that now make up the collection of the Pharmacy Museum in Lisbon are diverse.
A journey that, although it began in prehistory, is still being built upon the evidence that now reaches us from the "future," such as the portable pharmacies and first-aid kits used by NASA astronauts aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour.
