Zoran Živkovic nasceu em 1948 na cidade de Belgrado, Sérvia, onde vive atualmente. Até 2017, foi Professor Catedrático de Escrita Criativa na Faculdade de Filologia da Universidade de Belgrado. É um dos escritores sérvios da atualidade mais traduzidos em todo o mundo: À data do mês de abril de 2023 existiam 125 edições estrangeiras dos seus livros de ficção, em 21 línguas e publicados em 25 países. Živkovic venceu vários prémios literários de ficção. Em 1994 venceu o Prémio Miloš Crnjanski pela obra O Quarto Círculo. Em 2003, A Biblioteca venceu o World Fantasy Award para melhor novela e The Bridge venceu o Prémio Isidora Sekulic em 2007. No mesmo ano, o autor foi galardoado com o Prémio de Carreira na Literatura Stefan Mitrov Ljubiša.
