Yanis Varoufakis

Yanis Varoufakis was born in Athens in 1961 and received his PhD in Economics from the University of Essex in 1997. A fierce critic of capitalism, he was a university professor, academic, political commentator and Minister of Economy in 2015, during the government of Alexis Tsipras. Author of, among others, The Global Minotaur and Behave Like Adults, he is also co-founder of the Democracy in Europe 2025 Movement (DiEM25) and professor of Economics at the University of Athens.
