Wolfgang Herrndorf nasceu em 1965, em Hamburgo, Alemanha. Formado em pintura, trabalhou como ilustrador para a editora Haffmans e, entre outras, as publicações de contracultura Looke & Trooke e Titanic. Em 2002 lançou o seu romance de estreia, In Plüschgewittern e, em 2008, Diesseits des Van-Allen-Gürtels, ambos premiados. Em 2011 venceu o Prémio Nacional de Literatura Juvenil Alemã, com o romance Adeus, Berlim (Tschick).
