William T. Vollmann (1959, Los Angeles, EUA), considerado pela crítica literária um dos mais importantes escritores norte-americanos da atualidade, é autor de inúmeros romances, livros de contos e short-stories, incluindo Europe Central, vencedor do National Book Award em 2005. Escreveu também várias obras de não-ficção, num registo híbrido entre o ensaio e a reportagem jornalística, entre as quais Rising Up and Rising Down e Imperial, ambas finalistas do National Book Critics Circle Award. Vollmann foi igualmente premiado com o PEN Center USA West Award, o Whiting Writer’s Award e o Strauss Living Award, atribuído pela Academia Americana de Artes e Letras. Vive na Califórnia, e é também pintor e fotógrafo.
