William Lindsay Gresham

William Lindsay Gresham (1909-1962) nasceu em Baltimore e concluiria os estudos em Brooklyn, em 1926. Gresham tinha uma mente torturada e teve uma vida atormentada, e, ao tentar livrar-se dos seus demónios, perdeu-se num labirinto daquilo que para ele viriam a ser becos sem saída, desde o marxismo à psicanálise, ao cristianismo, aos Alcoólicos Anónimos, ao budismo zen Rinzai. Desses demónios emergiria o seu romance Beco das Almas Perdidas (1946), um dos clássicos underground<7i> da literatura americana.
