Will Hermes nasceu em 1960, em Nova Iorque. Jornalista e crítico musical, é colaborador regular da revista Rolling Stone e da National Public Radio (NPR), tendo escrito também noutras publicações, como The New York Times, The Village Voice, SPIN, GQ ou a Pitchfork. É autor do livro Love Goes to Buildings on Fire: Five Years in New York That Changed Music Forever, que retrata a cena musical nova-iorquina nos anos 1970.
