Nasceu em Sintra, a 11 de janeiro de 1941. Os seus primeiros poemas datam dos anos 50, quando, estudante liceal, descobriu a sua paixão pelas letras. Ainda como trabalhador-estudante foi chamado para serviço militar. Mobilizado, embarcou para Moçambique e ali cumpriu, como sargento miliciano, de 1963 a 1966. Só após o serviço militar completou a sua formação na área de Contabilidade, sendo Técnico Oficial de Contas e residindo atualmente em Mafra.
Publicou 32 livros de poesia.
