Virginie Despentes é uma autora e realizadora francesa, além de reconhecida crítica cultural e feminista. Membro da Academia Francesa, a sua obra, provocadora e focada na sociedade urbana dos últimos trinta anos, tem sido galardoada com vários prémios.
De entre os seus livros, destacam-se Bye Bye Blondie, Teoria King Kong (Ed. Orfeu Negro, 2016) e Apocalypse Baby (Ed. Sextante, 2011), vencedor dos Prix Renaudot de 2010, e a trilogia Vernon Subutex, vencedora, em 2015, do Prix Anaïs Nin, Prix Landerneau e Prix La Coupole, e finalista do Prémio Man Booker Internacional.
