Virginia Vallejo foi a apresentadora mais importante da televisão colombiana na década de 1980, época em que iniciou a sua relação amorosa com Pablo Escobar. Nos anos que se seguiram, pagou um preço alto por esta relação, que acabou por ditar o fim da sua carreira. Em julho de 2006 ofereceu o seu testemunho contra o candidato presidencial Alberto Santofimio, acusado de instigar o assassinato de Luis Carlos Galán, perpetrado por Escobar. O dia seguinte à sua saída da Colômbia, 42 jornais de todo o mundo publicavam a notícia em primeira página. Amando Pablo, Odiando Escobar é o seu primeiro livro.
