Virgílio Machado

Virgílio Miguel Rodrigues Machado, 55 years old, born in Portimão, the city where he resides, graduated in Law from the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon in 1988 and holds a PhD in Tourism from the University of Aveiro, obtained in 2009.

He is currently an Adjunct Professor at the School of Management, Hospitality and Tourism of the University of Algarve, Portugal. He has diverse experience in legal counsel for Public Administration, Government, Companies and Courts. He has been a professor in higher education for approximately 28 years and a researcher in advanced studies in Law, Tourism and Governance, with an emphasis on topics such as power and territory, history of systems and institutional development.

He has already published two works, the first entitled "Law and Tourism as Instruments of Power - Tourist Territories", in 2010, and in 2015 "Tourism, Law and Democracy", both with prefaces by his PhD supervisors, Doctors Carlos Costa and Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

He has approximately 20 articles, either exclusively or as a co-author, published in national and international scientific journals, including, recently, the prestigious journals Tourism Planning and Development (2018) and Journal of Place Management and Development (2019).
