Vanessa de Almeida nasceu em Lisboa. É licenciada em História (variante História da Arte) pela Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa e mestre em Antropologia, na área de especialização em Direitos Humanos e Movimentos Sociais, pela Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas da Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
Autora de dois livros e com colaboração em várias obras colectivas, tem como temáticas de interesse os movimentos sociais, a clandestinidade política, o género e os usos da memória. É investigadora do Instituto de História Contemporânea da Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas.
