Vidiadhar Surajprasad Naipaul was born in Trinidad in 1932. He moved to England in 1950, where he studied at Oxford. He is the author of a rich body of fiction and non-fiction work, having achieved, after several awards, the highest literary prize. In 1990, V.S. Naipaul was knighted for his service to literature, and in 2001 he received the Nobel Prize in Literature.
