Umi Sinha nasceu e cresceu em Mumbai (na altura ainda Bombaim), filha de mãe inglesa e pai indiano. Foi viver para o Reino Unido em 1968, experiência que, a par com o impacto da História na vida do individuo, é um dos temas centrais da sua escrita. É formada em Escrita Criativa e deu aulas na Universidade do Sussex durante dez anos. Atualmente, dá aulas e workshops de Escrita Criativa, dirige um clube de contadores de histórias, e trabalha em edição. Vários dos seus contos foram já publicados em revistas e antologias. Vive em Newhaven, Reino Unido. Lila e o Jogo de Deus é o seu primeiro romance.
