Ulrich Beck(1944-2015) foi um dos grandes pensadores e sociólogos do nosso tempo e teve uma carreira preenchida, com interesses variados. Além da sua faceta lectiva – foi Professor Emérito de Sociologia em Munique, deu aulas em Harvard e na London School of Economics – Beck foi também o autor de uma vasta obra, fundamental para a sociologia contemporânea. Além de A Sociedade do Risco, dele publicou Edições 70 "A Europa Alemã. De Maquiavel a 'Merkievel'. Estratégias de Poder na Crise do Euro".
