Tomáš Špidlík (1919-2010), a Czech Jesuit, dedicated his life to deepening and disseminating the Eastern Christian tradition.
He maintained pastoral and diplomatic work with Christians living in the countries of the Warsaw Pact.
Created a Cardinal in 2003 by Pope John Paul II, he had lived at the Aletti Center in Rome since 1991.
