Tom Sharpe

Tom Sharpe nasceu em Londres em 1928 e faleceu em 2013. Após cumprir o serviço militar nos Fuzileiros Navais, foi viver para a África do Sul em 1951. Aí trabalhou em serviços sociais e mais tarde no ensino, em Natal. Teve um estúdio fotográfico em Pietermaritzburg de 1957 a 1961, ano em que foi deportado. De regresso a Inglaterra, em 1963-1972 foi professor de História no Instituto de Letras e Tecnologia de Cambridge. É autor de dezena e meia de romances de grande êxito, traduzidos em mais de vinte línguas. Em 1986 recebeu o XXIIIème Grand Prix de l'Humour Noir Xavier Forneret. Em 2010 foi-lhe atribuído o Prémio BBK La Risa de Bilbao. Residiu alternadamente em Cambridge e na Catalunha.
