Sydney Smith é um ilustrador canadiano consagrado que já recebeu importantes prémios pelo seu trabalho. Os seus livros, entre os quais Ser Pequeno na Cidade, o primeiro que simultaneamente escreveu e ilustrou, têm sido aclamados pela crítica.
Ser Pequenino na Cidade recebeu o Governor General's Literary Award, assim como a Medalha de Prata da Society of Illustrators, em Nova Iorque. Recebeu ainda o Governor General's Award for Illustrated Children's Books e os seus livros foram nomeados, por quatro vezes consecutivas, para a distinção de Melhor Livro Infantil Ilustrado do Ano pelo New York Times.
Eu Falo Como Um Rio recebeu o aplauso unânime da crítica e vários prémios e nomeações internacionais.
