Pensa-se que Sun Tzu tenha sido um general, estratega e filósofo do Período dos Reinos Combatentes do Império Chinês, em meados do século V a.C. É-lhe atribuída a autoria de A Arte da Guerra, o mais influente e duradouro tratado do mundo sobre estratégia militar, apesar de hoje essa possibilidade ser discutida – e, mesmo, a existência do próprio Sun Tzu.
