É autor de Competitive Authoritarianism e já foi galardoado com numerosos prémios na área do ensino. Escreve para a Vox e para o jornal The New York Times, entre outras publicações.
É coautor do livro Como Morrem as Democracias, editado pela Vogais em 2018.
