Stefan Zweig

Stefan Zweig was born on November 28, 1881 in Vienna and is one of the most important European authors of the first half of the twentieth century. Of Jewish descent, in 1934 he undertook a voluntary exile from Austria, then under the domination of the fascist regime of Dollfuss (Austrofascism), and lived in England, the United States of America and Brazil, where he would die in 1942. From his extensive work, the novels Amok (1922) and Confusion of Feelings (1927), the biography Magalhães, o Homem e o seu Feito (1938), the essay Brasil, País do Futuro (1941) and the autobiography O Mundo de Ontem (1942) stand out. Novela de Xadrez was his final work, completed shortly before his death, on February 22, 1942.
