Sofi Oksanen, de nacionalidade finlandesa e estónia, colocou-se entre os mais promissores jovens escritores finlandeses com a publicação do seu primeiro romance, Stalin's Cows.
Seguiu-se Baby Jane. A purga, publicado pela Alfaguara em 2011, revelou-se um sucesso imediato na Finlândia e em vários outros países, a que se seguiu Quando as pombas desaparecem (Alfaguara, 2015).
Além do louvor e admiração da crítica literária um pouco por todo o mundo, Sofi Oksanen obteve também numerosos prémios literários, entre os quais se contam o Prémio Femina, o Prémio Europeu de Melhor Romance, o Prémio FNAC e o Prémio Nórdico da Academia Sueca.
Vive em Helsínquia, capital da Finlândia, e Norma é o seu quinto romance.
