Skinny Puppy

Skinny Puppy is a Canadian industrial music band formed in 1982 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Founded by cEvin Key (keyboards and electronic percussion) and Nivek Ogre (vocals), Skinny Puppy is widely recognized as a pioneer of the industrial genre, influencing countless bands with their dark, experimental, and politically charged approach. His music combines abrasive electronic sounds, provocative lyrics and theatrically intense live performances.

Their first release, the Back & Forth EP (1984), marked the beginning of an innovative sonic approach, blending mechanical beats, atmospheric samples, and a horror aesthetic that would become the band's signature. With the album Bites (1985), Skinny Puppy began to attract attention in the underground scene with tracks like "Assimilate", which captured the essence of the emerging industrial.

During the '80s and '90s, Skinny Puppy released a number of acclaimed albums, including Mind: The Perpetual Intercourse (1986), which included the hit "Dig It", and Too Dark Park (1990), known for its sonic intensity and social criticism. The album Last Rights (1992) is often cited as one of the band's masterpieces, exploring themes of alienation, social control, and environmental destruction.

Despite the artistic success, the band faced internal difficulties, culminating in the tragic death of Dwayne Goettel (keyboards) in 1995. After a hiatus, Key and Ogre reunited in 2000 and resumed their career with albums such as The Greater Wrong of the Right (2004) and Weapon (2013), maintaining the critical and experimental essence that characterizes them.

Skinny Puppy continues to be a vital force in the industrial landscape, both for the cultural impact and the continued relevance of his music. With a rich discography and impactful live performances, the band remains one of the most iconic names in the genre, defying convention and exploring the boundaries of electronic and experimental music.
