Sérgio Ávila

Sérgio Ávila é natural da Ilha do Pico. Mestre e Doutor em Biologia pela Univ. dos Açores (Ponta Delgada), especializou-se em Biogeografia e Paleontologia de moluscos marinhos litorais. Autor de uma já assinalável produção científica, dispersa entre artigos em revistas especializadas, Congressos científicos e livros entretanto editados. Participou em diversas expedições científicas e organizou nos Açores vários workshops internacionais dentro desta área. Coordenador dos Centros de Ciência dos Açores, foi nomeado em 2008 Presidente do Conselho Regional dos Açores da Ordem dos Biólogos. Apaixonado pela Fotografia, já realizou algumas exposições, nos Açores e em Portugal e o belo livro fotográfico «A Balada das Baleias» é de sua autoria.
