Alexandrian nasceu em Paris em 1927. Fez estudos de Psicologia na Sorbonne e de Arte e Arqueologia na École du Louvre. Ensaísta, historiador de arte e romancista, é autor de numerosos livros, alguns deles já clássicos. Destacamos Le Socialisme romantique (1979), Histoire de la Philosophie oculte (1983), Le Surréalisme et le rêve (1974) e Histoire de la litératture érotique (1989). Na Antígona, foi publicado, em 1999, o ensaio Os Libertadores do Amor.
Dirigiu em Paris a revista Supérieur Inconnu, de que foi fundador em 1995. Faleceu em 2009.
