Sarah Waters
She was born in Wales in 1966 and holds a PhD in English Literature. In 1998 she received the New London Writers' Award. In 2000 she received the Sunday Times Young Writers' Award and the Somerset Maugham Award, both for Affinity. Her novel False Appearances was a finalist for the Booker Prize. She was considered by the prestigious Granta magazine one of the 20 most promising young British writers.
She won the Betty Trask Award, the Somerset Maugham Award, and was twice shortlisted for the Mail on Sunday/John Llewellyn Rhys Prize. Her works False Appearances and The Watchman were both finalists for the Man Booker Prize and the Orange Prize, with False Appearances also winning the CWA Ellis Peters Dagger Award for Historical Crime Fiction and the South Bank Show Award for Literature. The works Velvet Touch, Affinity, and False Appearances have been adapted for television. She lives in London.
