Sally Carson
Sylvia 'Sally' Carson (1902–1941), the youngest of three sisters, was born in Surrey and raised by her widowed mother in Dorset. She studied dance at Bedford College and worked as an editorial reader. Inspired by stays in Bavaria, she wrote the trilogy. "Crooked Cross" (1934), "The Prisoner" (1936) and "A Traveller Came By" (1938). Her first play was staged in 1935. She married Eric Humphries in 1938, with whom she had three children. She died of breast cancer in June 1941.
