Nasceu em Vila Nova de Gaia, em 1957. É professora associada da Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto, onde se doutorou em Literatura Portuguesa, em 1996, e membro do Instituto de Literatura Comparada Margarida Losa, Unidade I & D da Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia. Como domínios de investigação tem privilegiado a Literatura Portuguesa Moderna e Contemporânea, as Poéticas do Século XX e a Literatura Comparada. Além de ensaios incluídos em revistas ou obras coletivas, publicou "Estrutura e Transposição: Invenção poética e reflexão metapoética na obra de João Cabral de Melo Neto" (1990) e "Carlos de Oliveira e a Referência em Poesia" (1998).
