Rita Taborda Duarte nasceu a 26 de abril de 1973, portanto nasceu em ditadura, mas cresceu em liberdade. Em 2003, venceu o prémio Branquinho da Fonseca Expresso/Gulbenkian, com o seu primeiro livro para a infância, A Verdadeira História da Alice, e desde esse dia passa o tempo a escrever para crianças (e também para adultos). Certo dia, numa escola, um menino perguntou-lhe se gostava de ser uma escritora infantil. A partir daí, assumiu o epíteto de escritora (um bocado) infantil e nunca mais deixou de brincar com as palavras, sempre com os pés bem assentes na lua.
