Rita Ciotta Neves nasceu em Roma em 1949, onde se formou em Letras na Universidade La Sapienza, concluindo o doutoramento em História na Universidade Portucalense do Porto. Desde 1980 vive em Lisboa. Foi docente de Italiano na Universidade de Coimbra e, no âmbito do Programa Erasmus, nas Universidades de Perugia, Arezzo e Lecce. Em Lisboa foi professora de Italiano no Instituto Italiano di Cultura e de Semiótica e Teoria da Literatura na Universidade Lusófona. Além de numerosos artigos, ensaios e traduções, publicou Italo Calvino – Lições de Modernidade (Edições Universitárias Lusófonas, 2007), Carolina Maria de Jesus - Uma Biografia nas Margens da Literatura (Edições Colibri, 2020) e Gramsci: a Cultura, os Subalternos e a Educação - 3.ª Ed. (Edições Colibri, 2021).
