Rita Canas Mendes (Lisboa, 1984) formou-se em Filosofia e tem uma pós-graduação em Edição. Depois de ter trabalhado em diversas editoras, atualmente dedica-se à tradução literária - tendo traduzido obras de Margaret Atwood, Lucia Berlin, Patricia Highsmith e Edna O'Brien, entre outros - e à escrita. Tem sete obras publicadas, todas em áreas distintas, do guia prático ao livro infantil, havendo outras três em processo de publicação. Em 2021, ganhou uma Bolsa de Criação Literária. Teoria das Catástrofes Elementares é o seu primeiro romance.
