Richard C. Schwartz
Richard C. Schwartz is an American psychotherapist, author, and lecturer. He developed Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS) as a response to descriptions from patients who spoke of the various parts that existed within them.
He then focused on the relationships between these parts and realized that there were systemic patterns in the way they were organized. He also discovered that when different parts felt safe and could relax, patients spontaneously experienced trust and compassion.
In 2000, he founded the The Center for Self Leadership, which from 2019 onwards became known as IFS Institute.
